External PHP and fullstack developer

Looking for a freelance PHP developer for your team or project?

I work with agencies and companies as an external PHP fullstack developer: PHP, Laravel, WordPress, JavaScript and React, MySQL. I fit into your processes, work remotely and prefer long-term collaboration.

An agency has more work than its own team can handle, a company needs to finish an application after its developer has left, or a product team is looking for someone who can cover both backend and frontend without a long onboarding. Hiring another employee often makes little sense in that situation, and neither does handing the whole project to another agency. An external PHP developer plugs into the existing repository, tasks and deployment process, takes on a clearly defined part of the work and delivers it in a form the team can review and build on.

I have been building websites since 2007. I went through agencies in Košice and Bratislava: at Promiseo I worked mainly on frontend development and gradually took on backend work too, and at Mayer McCann Erickson I delivered campaign websites in a larger agency environment. Today I work in collaborations that have lasted six to seven years and more. I have worked with Webikon on WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP since 2019, and for AltTag I handle conference registrations, payments, tickets and streaming. I am a freelance PHP developer based in Poprad, Slovakia, and I work remotely.

01

The stack I work in every day

My main stack is PHP and Laravel, WordPress and WooCommerce, JavaScript and React, and MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. On the backend I write custom plugins, server-side logic, integrations with external APIs and data migrations, and I can move older code step by step to modern PHP 8.3. On the frontend I use React where interactivity and fast data updates on screen matter, and lighter tools where server-rendered HTML is enough. As a PHP fullstack developer I can deliver a feature from the database to the interface without splitting it between several people.

  • PHP, Laravel, WordPress, WooCommerce
  • JavaScript and React
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL

02

Fitting into your team and processes

I do not bring my own rules into someone else's project. I work in your git following your conventions for branches and commits, send changes for code review and deploy the way your team has agreed. I take tasks from the tool the team uses and communicate in its channels. On a new project I first get to know the architecture, dependencies and deployment process, and only then start changing code. I ask questions early so that nobody discovers at handover that everyone understood the brief differently.

  • Your git and your conventions
  • Changes through code review
  • Deployment your way

03

For agencies: extra capacity without another management layer

I work with agencies as a dependable developer inside their team, without adding another layer of project management. The agency keeps the client relationship, design and priorities, and I deliver development within the agreed scope and deadline. I know the agency environment from the inside: fixed deadlines, several projects at once and quality seen by many people at once. I can pick up an ongoing WordPress, WooCommerce or Laravel project or build a new one to the agency's standards.

  • The client relationship stays yours
  • Delivery within the agreed scope and deadline
  • Agency experience in Košice and Bratislava

04

For companies: taking over and growing your own systems

Companies most often bring me in when an in-house developer has left, the original supplier has no capacity, or a system needs to grow beyond what the internal team can handle. I have taken over whole Laravel applications and continued their development when the original developers no longer had time for them. I have worked on B2B portals, multi-tenant platforms, electronic invoicing systems, registration systems for conference organisers and subscription portals. When taking over, I first map versions, dependencies, tests and deployment, name the risks and only then propose the order of work. I only recommend a rewrite from scratch when it is demonstrably cheaper than further fixes.

  • Taking over from the original team
  • A map of risks before any change
  • No automatic rewrite

05

Code the next developer can pick up

An external developer should not create dependency. I write readable code with clear names and separated responsibilities, leave a note wherever a decision is not obvious, and add tests and static analysis around critical logic. Larger parts come with a short description of how to run, configure and deploy them. When the collaboration ends, your team has everything it needs in the repository and does not have to reconstruct why something works the way it does.

  • Readable code and notes
  • Tests around critical logic
  • Notes on running and deploying

Long-term remote collaboration

The best results come from collaborations that last for years, because every project needs less explaining and builds more shared context. I work remotely from Poprad with teams in Slovakia and abroad, and I am happy to meet in person for local projects. We agree on the form of collaboration that suits you: a fixed price for a defined stage, or paying for the time actually spent on ongoing development. You always get the price and terms in writing upfront.

Common questions about working with an external PHP developer

How much does an external PHP developer cost?

It depends on the scope and the form of collaboration. A defined task gets a fixed price, and for ongoing development we agree on a different model. You always get the price and terms in writing before work begins.

Do you work with agencies?

Yes. I work with agencies as an external developer inside their team. The agency keeps the client relationship and priorities, and I deliver development within the agreed scope, in its repository and following its processes.

Will you work in our git and code review?

Yes. I work in your repository following your conventions, send changes for review and deploy according to the agreed process. If you do not have an established process yet, I will suggest a simple, documented one.

Which technologies do you work with?

Mainly PHP and Laravel, WordPress and WooCommerce, JavaScript and React, MySQL and PostgreSQL. I can move older PHP code step by step to PHP 8.3. If a project relies on technology outside this stack, I will say so openly before we start.

Is long-term collaboration possible?

Yes, and it is what I prefer. My collaborations have lasted six to seven years and more, for example I have worked with Webikon on WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP since 2019.

Do you work remotely?

Yes, most collaborations are remote. I am based in Poprad and work with teams in Slovakia and abroad. For local projects we can also meet in person.
